Provider due-diligence checklist

How to choose a truck driving school in Perth

Use this checklist before paying. A good provider should be able to answer clearly, document the booking and focus fully on safe instruction.

First verification

Confirm the provider is suitable for your pathway

Approval and scope

For RTO-delivered training, verify the organisation, the relevant training unit and any Transport WA approval required for the class.

Vehicle and gearbox

Ask for the exact configuration, gearbox, condition, load and assessment suitability—not only a general truck description.

Instructor and assessor roles

Ask who provides training, who conducts assessment and how conflicts or changes are handled.

MC requirement: MC training and the practical assessment must be completed through a Transport WA-approved RTO.
During instruction

Look for professional attention and useful feedback

  • The instructor explains the session objective and assessment standard.
  • Phone use is limited to genuine operational or emergency needs and never distracts from instruction.
  • Feedback is specific: what happened, why it matters and what to do next.
  • The learner has enough supervised practice to repeat the skill consistently.
  • Safety interventions are calm, timely and explained after the risk is controlled.
  • Training records and recommendations reflect observed performance.

Questions to send

Copy this short provider questionnaire

  1. Are you approved for my exact class and pathway?
  2. What vehicle and gearbox will I train and assess in?
  3. What is included in the total price?
  4. How do you decide that I am assessment-ready?
  5. What does extra training or reassessment cost?
  6. Can I see the cancellation and refund policy before payment?
  7. Who will train and assess me?
  8. How do you protect focused instruction from avoidable phone distractions?
Independent checks

Verify claims outside the provider’s website

Use the official Transport WA approved-provider information and the national training register. Reviews can reveal patterns, but read them critically and give more weight to documented policies and direct answers.

WA Truck Training may refer enquiries to independent providers. Any commercial referral relationship should be disclosed; the provider remains responsible for training, assessment, service and pricing.
